Carbon Reduction Plan

Last updated: 5 August 2026

A note on the figures in this plan: Summus Technology has not yet completed an independent, third-party carbon audit. The emissions figures below are working estimates, based on typical benchmarks for a UK technology consultancy of our size and activity, so that we can publish a plan and start tracking progress now. We will replace these with verified figures following our first full carbon audit, and we will note clearly when that update happens.

Introduction

Summus Technology Solutions Ltd is committed to achieving Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, in line with the UK Government’s legal commitment under the Climate Change Act 2008 (as amended by the Climate Change Act 2008 (2050 Target Amendment) Order 2019).

This Carbon Reduction Plan has been prepared in the format set out in PPN 06/21 (now PPN 006), and covers our Scope 1, Scope 2, and the Scope 3 categories required under that standard: business travel, employee commuting, and waste generated in operations.

Our Business

Summus Technology is a UK-based technology consultancy providing cloud infrastructure, DevOps, AI and digital transformation, and custom software development services. We operate a small office alongside hybrid and remote working arrangements for our team, and we do not operate a vehicle fleet.

Baseline Emissions Footprint

Baseline year: 2025 (calendar year, our first year of emissions tracking).

Emissions sourcetCO2e
Scope 1 (direct emissions, e.g. gas heating)1.2
Scope 2 (purchased electricity, location-based)6.8
Scope 3: business travel8.4
Scope 3: employee commuting5.1
Scope 3: waste generated in operations1.0
Total (baseline year)22.5

Current Emissions Reporting

Reporting year: 2026 (year to date, estimated).

Emissions sourcetCO2e
Scope 1 (direct emissions)1.0
Scope 2 (purchased electricity, location-based)6.1
Scope 3: business travel7.4
Scope 3: employee commuting4.7
Scope 3: waste generated in operations0.9
Total (current reporting year)20.1

This represents an estimated reduction of around 11% against our 2025 baseline, driven mainly by continued hybrid working and a shift toward video conferencing for client meetings.

Emissions Reduction Targets

Summus Technology commits to reducing our total emissions (Scope 1, 2 and the included Scope 3 categories) as follows:

  • By 2030: a reduction of at least 50% against our 2025 baseline (target: 11.25 tCO2e or lower).
  • By 2040: a reduction of at least 75% against our 2025 baseline, as a stretch goal ahead of the UK’s 2050 target.
  • By 2050 at the latest: Net Zero, in line with the UK Government’s legal target.

We will review and, where possible, tighten these targets each year as our carbon reporting matures and as we complete our first independent audit.

Carbon Reduction Measures Already in Place

The following measures have been implemented and are in effect during the performance of our contracts:

  • Cloud-first infrastructure. We do not operate our own data centres or on-premises server rooms. Client and internal workloads run on major public cloud providers, reducing the energy and hardware footprint compared with self-hosted infrastructure.
  • Hybrid and remote working. Our team works flexibly between home and the office, which has measurably reduced commuting emissions since 2025.
  • Video conferencing as default. Client meetings and internal collaboration are conducted remotely wherever practical, with travel reserved for occasions where in-person attendance adds clear value.
  • Renewable-backed electricity tariff. Our office electricity is supplied through a renewable energy tariff.
  • Paper-light operations. Contracts, invoices and internal documentation are handled digitally, minimising paper use and associated waste.
  • Recycling and waste segregation. Our office operates recycling streams for paper, plastics and electronic waste (WEEE).
  • Cycle to Work scheme. Available to all employees to encourage low-carbon commuting.

Planned Carbon Reduction Measures

Over the next 12 months, we plan to:

  • Commission an independent, third-party carbon audit to replace the estimated figures in this plan with verified data.
  • Install energy monitoring in our office to track electricity use more accurately than estimation allows.
  • Formalise a supplier code of conduct that gives preference to hosting and infrastructure providers with published Net Zero or renewable energy commitments.
  • Introduce a simple internal travel policy that requires rail or public transport to be considered before flights or car travel for UK client visits.
  • Review options for offsetting unavoidable residual emissions through verified, accredited offset schemes, used only after direct reduction measures have been exhausted.
  • Publish an annual update to this plan, including progress against our 2030 target.
