Environmental Policy Statement

Last updated: 5 August 2026

Introduction

Summus Technology Solutions Ltd recognises that our operations, and the technology services we deliver, have an environmental impact. This Environmental Policy Statement sets out our aims for managing the environmental aspects of our business and our commitment to a programme of continual improvement.

This policy applies to all Summus Technology employees, contractors and directors, and covers all of our activities, including our office operations, IT infrastructure, business travel, procurement, and the services we deliver to clients.

Our Environmental Aims

Summus Technology is committed to:

  • Minimising the environmental impact of our operations, so far as is reasonably practicable;
  • Complying with all applicable environmental legislation, regulations and other requirements to which we subscribe;
  • Preventing pollution and reducing waste generated by our business activities;
  • Using energy, water and materials efficiently, and favouring lower-carbon and renewable options where practical;
  • Reducing greenhouse gas emissions from our operations, in line with our published Carbon Reduction Plan;
  • Considering environmental impact when selecting suppliers, partners and cloud infrastructure providers;
  • Communicating this policy to our employees, contractors and suppliers, and encouraging them to work in an environmentally responsible way;
  • Continually improving our environmental performance through a structured programme of review and action.

Environmental Aspects We Manage

As a technology consultancy, our most significant environmental aspects relate to:

  • Energy use, principally electricity consumption in our office and the energy used by the cloud infrastructure we operate on behalf of clients;
  • Business travel and commuting, including client visits and staff travel to and from our office;
  • Waste, including general office waste, packaging, and electronic waste (WEEE) from IT equipment;
  • Procurement, including the hardware, software licences and professional services we buy;
  • Water use, in the ordinary course of operating our office.

We assess these aspects periodically to understand which have the greatest environmental impact and where improvement effort should be focused.

Programme of Improvement

We commit to a structured, ongoing programme of environmental improvement, which includes:

  • Maintaining and annually updating our Carbon Reduction Plan, with targets for reducing our Scope 1, Scope 2 and relevant Scope 3 emissions;
  • Reviewing our energy use and seeking opportunities to reduce consumption or switch to renewable sources;
  • Favouring cloud infrastructure providers with published Net Zero or renewable energy commitments;
  • Maintaining recycling and waste segregation in our office, and reducing waste at source where possible;
  • Supporting hybrid and remote working, and favouring video conferencing over travel where it does not compromise client service;
  • Reviewing this policy, and our environmental performance against it, at least once a year;
  • Setting objectives and targets for improvement, and reporting progress to senior management.

Responsibilities

Overall responsibility for this policy sits with the senior management of Summus Technology. Day-to-day implementation is the responsibility of every employee, who is expected to:

  • Follow this policy and any related procedures in their day-to-day work;
  • Use resources, including energy, paper and IT equipment, responsibly;
  • Raise suggestions for reducing our environmental impact with management;
  • Report any environmental concerns or incidents promptly.

Senior management is responsible for reviewing this policy, setting objectives and targets, allocating resources to support environmental improvement, and reporting on progress.

Summus Technology is committed to complying with all applicable UK environmental legislation, and with any environmental requirements set by our clients as part of our contractual obligations, including the requirements of PPN 06/21 (now PPN 006) where applicable.

Communication

This policy is published on our website and is available to all employees, contractors, clients and members of the public. It is communicated to new employees as part of induction, and to relevant suppliers and contractors where appropriate.

Review

This Environmental Policy Statement will be reviewed at least annually, and updated sooner if there is a significant change to our operations, our environmental aspects, or applicable legislation. It was approved by senior management and published on 5 August 2026, and will next be reviewed no later than August 2027.
